Lurking

Today, I was talking to a friend about the subject of blogging and she asked me how I feel about "lurkers". And not that I've never thought about it before, because I know I have lurkers. But honestly, if my life brings that much joy to someone's day, then bring on the lurkers! (Although I can't imagine that to be the case because the garbage man seems to have a more exciting life than I do!) I average 75-100 hits a day and only 5 repeatedly leave comments. Obviously there are lurkers out there. And for what it's worth, you don't have to have a password to leave a comment...hint hint! Let me say that again. YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A PASSWORD TO LEAVE A COMMENT! As for security, I never put our last name on the blog, nor the exact city we live in, or where we go to church, or where my kids to go school, etc. So I think a person would have to try REALLY hard to track us down if they had ill intentions. I know that most people who read our blog are people who love us and just want to know what's going on in our lives. What does bother me just a bit are the very few people who may be reading in a judgemental way, in an effort to scrutinize my family. And I don't know why I care. I shouldn't let it get to me. As a pastor's family, we do live in a glass house as it is. Like it or not, it is what it is. And I've kind of accepted it (though not happily!) And to those people, I would say, I may not be like you or have the same lifestyle or thoughts or beliefs, but don't judge me for that. It's okay for us to be different. God loves us equally and uses us in different ways to achieve His purpose.

So welcome one and all. And don't be a stranger. Leave a comment!

I have to say I love how you say or at least type exactly what you are thinking. And from our limited time together I imagine you're not different in person. And I mean that in a good way. :)

Personally, I think (like you said) as long as you don't have your name out there and no real specific information that would let anyone find out who you are or where you are...then it is probably pretty ok.

I like reading your blog....I get a laugh out of reading some of the post about y'all and your aggie family. It lets me be able to keep up with you since you are in that BELOVED HOLY LAND called DISNEYWORLD!!!

Number five commentor! I never care about lurkers either (although we call them "blog stalkers" up here). Sometimes I'm one of them as well. I love blogging!

I was a lurker, but then I wasn't. So now you "know" me!

I probably should be a little more cautious about what we put on our blog but hey, if someone really wanted to find us, there are other ways.

I have some lurkers too but I don't know if it's better to find out who they are or not!! :)

I definitely go through my paranoid moments about whether I am putting too much about us on my blog but then I realize there is such a small likihood of that happening (I hope! ;-) I have to take it on a daily basis...and most days I get more positive out of blogging with friends than negative.
I am mixed on lurkers...most of the time it doesn't bother me but I do have my moments. It can be annoying when I talk to someone and have to repeat everything I have been doing all month when all they have to do is read my blog and they would know. Then on the other side are the people who I'll be talking to and telling them something and they are like, "oh yeah, I know I read that on your blog" and I am thinking- 'you have NEVER commented, who knew you read my blog???'
It does bug me too when people take the time to read it but then don't comment because 'they don't have time.'
I finally took my counter off b/c it would bug me when I would get 10x more hits than comments! I just don't want to know! ;-)
Sheesh...guess I feel more strongly about this than I thought??? ;-)

Hi Steffanie. Nice to meet you! I think I've "lurked" on your blog a time or two as well. I've seen it linked from someone in our circle. Welcome. Don't be a stranger. Always feel free to comment.

Well, you know I am a dedicated reader, right. I comment pretty regularly? :) The drawback is, that I never call anymore, b/c I feel like I know what is going on through the blog. I need to do better about that.

I love hearing about your beautiful girls. I am not really a lurker but I usually check your blog at work and don't get the chance to post.

We have a big Alexander day tomorrow so please pray for us.

I read all the time and don't always comment. You make me laugh and that usually makes my day. I am in a meeting right now in Chicago and it is boring. I read often from work and like Lorri don't always have time to comment. But keep blogging, I love it.

Okay, I'm lurking. You don't know me and I don't know you, but I crack up at some of your comments on Kim's blog so I finally got up the nerve to click the link and take a look around. I'm actually the Mom of one of Kim's many friends. She talked me into this in September and now, said to say, I'm a blogoholic!

Happy anniversary! Your pictures are beautiful. (And so is your family. I have 5 grandchildren.)

I know who one of your lurkers is! She called me and told me she was reading your blog about lurking and I said I was going to tell on her! It's Mandy. She lurks on my links now. I think I'll convince her to create her own blog soon!
